Wake Forest baseball skipper apologizes for homophobic slur during Tennessee game

The Tennessee Volunteers took another step to defend their national championship by winning the NCAA Baseball Knoxville Regional with a victory over Wake Forest.
Things got chippy in the 4th inning with Wake head coach Tom Walter allegedly hurling a homophobic slur while UT slugger Andrew Fischer was at the plate—resulting in a two-run homer.
Walter issued a statement apologizing for the comment and blaming it on frustration. The Wake Forest brass were not happy with Walter’s reaction, including Athletic Director John Currie who said he spoke with the coach twice about the incident that Currie said does not meet the standards of Wake or the ACC.
