VA to send out thousands of unclaimed funds

The Virginia Treasury will be automatically sending out thousands of checks for unclaimed money. The Virginia General Assembly has approved new legislation to establish the new “VA Cash Now” program. According to the Virginia Treasury, this gives them the power to automatically return unclaimed property to the rightful owner, eliminating the need for people to file a claim. Under the new program, the Virginia Treasury can automatically return single-owner properties valued at up to $5,000, once the information in the unclaimed property database matches the verified taxpayer and address details. The Virginia Treasury denotes unclaimed property assets as things like Inactive bank accounts, Uncashed checks, Refunds or Insurance policy proceeds.
