New regional recycling facility opens in Blountville

A brand new regional recycling facility opened in Sullivan County on Tuesday. The new center is located at 999 Cross Community Road in Blountville. Community leaders gathered at the site Tuesday morning to cut the ribbon on the new center, which officials saying the new center will help prolong the life of the county’s landfill. The facility was awarded grants through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) totaling over $500,000, which has allowed leaders to add more equipment and infrastructure to the multi-million-dollar facility. The site does not accept solid waste or trash that cannot be recycled with accepted materials being plastics, cardboard, tin, aluminum and paper.
