Hovering heroes from VSP honored for Unicoi County rescues during hurricane
The images of helicopters from the neighboring Virginia State Police hovering above the roof of a flooded Unicoi County Hospital went nationwide during Hurricane Helene as crews from the Commonwealth extracted 40 patients and medical center workers.
The Children’s Emergency Care Alliance of Tennessee honored the pilots and crews of those Med Flight units, retired First Sergeant Jeffery Bush and Troopers Bryan Canada and Jacob Culp, with a Mutual Aid State Award.
Ballad Health Flight Nurses April Boyd and Wayne Carroll were also recognized for heroic actions that day.
