Congresswoman Harshbarger introduces American Music Tourism Act

Earlier this week, Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger introduced the American Music Tourism Act to the House. The bill will require the National Travel and Tourism Office of the Department of Commerce to promote tourism to music-related venues and festivals around the United States, including in our own region, where country music made it’s start. The bill is expected to help promote music festivals like the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, and could possibly benefit local musicians in the region as well. Positive impact to the local economy could be felt, providing increased revenue to restaurants, hotels, and small businesses. If the bill passes, the Department of Commerce must report its activities and findings to Congress within one year after the bill is signed and after that, every two years. The bill is now with the Senate.
