Zoo Knoxville red panda cub named after ETSU professor

A professor at ETSU has been honored with his name being given to a red panda cub at Zoo Knoxville. Dr. Steven Wallace is a professor at ETSU’s Department of Geosciences, and also the Gray Fossil Site’s director of field operations and museum curator. The Gray Fossil Site is where the discovery of two, nearly complete skeletons of giant red pandas, several million years old, were made. The two new male red panda cubs are named Dr. Wallace and Mr. Darcy. The cubs were reportedly born in June. Zoo Knoxville has had lots of success breeding red pandas, with more than 100 cubs born since 1978.
