U.S. Geological Survey reports 4.1 magnitude earthquake in NETN

The U.S. Geological Survey says a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was confirmed near the state border of Tennessee and North Carolina Saturday morning. At 9:10 a.m., the agency confirmed that a 3.5 magnitude earthquake was detected and felt across the region as far as Greenback, Maryville, Seymour and Atlanta, Georgia. Around 9:20 a.m., the agency updated the magnitude rating to 4.1. The quake prompted nearly 44,000 citizen reports. The earthquake happened about 12 miles southeast of Greenback around 9:04 a.m and originated about 16 miles below the surface. Then early Sunday morning a magnitude 2.8 earthquake was recorded near High Bridge, Kentucky. That quake occurred at 3:41 a.m., approximately 7 miles southeast of High Bridge in at a depth of nearly 18 miles. No injuries or damage was reported in either quake.
