Two separate weekend crashes claim motorcycle riders

A motorcycle rider died from injuries sustained in a Sunday night crash on North State of Franklin Road in Johnson City.

A city report said Carden Lamb, 35, was turning into a curve when his cycle hit the curb sending him and the machine airborne and landing in a rock-line culvert.

The police department’s crash reconstruction team continues to investigate the incident.

In a second, unrelated case, the Virginia State Police said a Sunday afternoon crash outside of Weber City in Scott County resulted in the death of a motorist.

The state report said Douglas Thatcher, 53, of Kingsport was on a motorcycle on Yuma Road when it crossed the centerline near Montana Drive and hit a pickup truck.

Thatcher later died at an area hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
