Traffic light in Elizabethton to be removed

A traffic light in Elizabethton is being removed. The city will remove a traffic light at East E. Street and North Sycamore Street. A traffic study in 2020 found that the light was unnecessary and the pedestrian crossing was no longer ADA compliant. To update the intersection would cost about $320,000. Starting Monday, August 25th, the lights will all flash red and the intersection will become a three-way stop. Then, over the next 90 days, stop signs will be installed for all approaching traffic and the signal will be removed.
