TBI investigates officer involved shooting in Sullivan County

One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Sullivan County Sunday. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says an officer-involved shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on Highway 394 near Highway 11 West. A THP trooper was responding to a crash in the area and encountered the driver involved in the crash. The police report says the trooper believed the subject was inebriated and attempted to arrest him and for reasons still under investigation, the subject fled, and the situation escalated. The subject then allegedly produced a gun and the trooper fired and killed him. No other injuries were reported and an investigation is underway.
