Scott County Life Saving Crew looking to recruit new members

Under staffing in The Scott County Life Saving crew is putting residents at risk in the county. The Scott County Life Saving Crew is one of three emergency teams in the county covering about 15,000 people and recently the crew has seen it’s numbers shrink. Employees going to work for private ambulatory services and a traffic accident that injured 2 employees are straining operations. Emergency services have had to be covered by the other two squads in the county as the life saving crew in Gate City went without a crew on the weekends for more than three weeks. Because of the shortage, the county board of supervisors voted to give oversight over the crew’s operations to the county’s rescue squad association, which is pushing to recruit more first responders. The Association is expected to update the board of supervisors at their next meeting in June on those recruitment efforts.
