“Safer on 11W” campaign to be announced

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office and law enforcement with jurisdictions along Highway 11W are teaming up to promote safety along the route. The agency and local police departments will host a press conference Friday to reveal details of the “Safer on 11W” campaign. The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office, Bean Station Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol are expected to participate in the press conference. The highway safety office said that participating agencies will conduct a DUI checkpoint on 11W from 9-11 p.m. on Aug. 29. The highway will also see increased traffic enforcement from August 29 through Labor Day. The press conference will be held at 11 a.m. at the Bean Station Police Department. Highway 11W stretches 120 miles from Knoxville to Bristol.
