Resolution to restrict bitcoin mining in Johnson County fails

A resolution to restrict cryptocurrency operations and other activities failed before the Johnson County Commission on Thursday night. Commissioners voted 7–6 on the resolution, which needed nine yes votes to pass. The measure would have prohibited not just cryptocurrency mining, but also new regulations on adult entertainment, methadone clinics and some restrictions on junk yards and recycling centers. Just a week ago, the Mountain City Board of Mayor and Aldermen failed to approve a rezoning that would have allowed for the development of a bitcoin mine on Rainbow Road in the county.
