Public-private partnership creates K-VA-T Food Stores $14 million project in Marion

Smyth County officials announced the construction of a new Food City location in the town of Marion that is expected to bring 51 new jobs to that region.
K-VA-T Food Stores, the parent company of the grocery store chain, and a financial package from the county will also result in building the new structure that will have an overall capital investment of $14.2 million while maintaining 120 existing jobs. The facility will be located in the former Marion Chevrolet location.
K-VA-T CEO Steve Smith said the project is a prime example of how a public-private partnership can expand a tax base and provide employment to the region.
