Officials estimate two more weeks of hurricane debris removal from Nolichucky

The amount of hurricane-related debris being removed from the Nolichucky River in Greene County is staggering.
Data released by county and state emergency agencies says 1 million cubic yards or 1.4 million tons of rubbish had been extracted as of Friday. That amount of debris could stretch from the Earth’s surface to 250 miles into space.
TEMA has announced recent rains have delayed the project but it should be completed within two weeks by contracted crews. In the weeks to follow, the report said the debris will be chipped and mulched.
