Marion man sentenced for beating autistic stepson

A Marion man sentenced to two years in state prison, convicted of brutally beating his 12-year-old autistic stepson. 35 year old, Casey Mobley, was sentenced Tuesday to two years. An additional three years was suspended on the condition that Mobley be on supervised probation. In 2023, Mobley attacked his then-stepson for eating bread in bed, cursing at him as he hit the child across the rear and face for roughly 30 seconds. Mobley pleaded guilty to felony child abuse, without a plea agreement being worked out. The state’s sentencing guidelines recommended an active incarceration period of one day to six months, but the guidelines were argued to be “out-of-touch”. Judge Jeffrey Campbell ultimately agreed and settled on the two-year sentence.
