Kingsport Dr. to remain jailed after federal charges

A federal judge has decided that Kingsport doctor Scott McLain is a flight risk and “no combination of conditions can be imposed” to reasonably assure he’ll show up for court hearings and he will remain in jail. McLain, who practices at Kingsport Primary Care and was arrested July 1, is charged with four felonies. Those charges are health care benefit fraud, making false statements and distribution of controlled substances. McLain allegedly billed insurers for services he didn’t provide and engaged in unauthorized distribution of Schedule II and Schedule IV drugs. The charges came after an investigation lasting over two years. McLain’s next appearance in U.S. District Court in Greeneville, a status conference, is set for August 7.
