Jonesborough Herald & Tribune says August 13 will be the final edition

The Jonesborough Herald & Tribune announced Tuesday that it will publish its final edition August 13 as the paper moves its content to the Johnson City Press. Parent company, Six Rivers Media, owns both papers as well as the Kingsport Times-News and several others. The announcement said the decision was made due to “ongoing challenges in the local news industry, including declining advertising revenue and subscriber numbers.” The paper first went to press in August 1869 and was one of Tennessee’s longest-running newspapers, operating for 156 years.
