Johnson City release video compilation of late night crimes downtown

The City of Johnson City released a compilation video showing violent crimes in the downtown district as city officials consider cutting off downtown alcohol sales at 1 a.m. The video consists of cell phone footage, surveillance video, and video from police body cameras, showing scenes of fights and shootings. All the crimes in the video occurred between 1 and 4 a.m., according to the city. City Commission will consider an ordinance that would set 1 a.m. as the cutoff time for on-premises alcohol sales downtown. The first reading of the ordinance will take place during the commission’s July 17 meeting. A second reading and public hearing will be on Aug. 7. The third and final reading will be on Aug. 21.
