Heavy rain causes more flooding Wednesday afternoon

Heavy rain Wednesday saw flash flooding affect several parts of Kingsport Wednesday and two drivers had to be rescued, according to the Kingsport Fire Department. No injuries were reported. The fire department had to rescue drivers who became stranded on Riverside Avenue and Lynn Garden Drive. The fire department also responded to a building on Eastern Star Road because the roof had started to cave in. The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said the agency responded to 12 calls of flooding and six calls for downed trees. There were also two calls initially classified as water rescues, but no one was trapped or otherwise impacted. The Sheriff’s Office also reported that several roads were closed Wednesday evening due to the flash flooding.
