Grants approved for big recreation projects in JC and Jonesborough

More than $2 million in state grants are coming to both Johnson City and Jonesborough for big recreation projects. The grants come through Tennessee’s Department of Environment and Conservation. 1.75 million dollars will help complete Jonesborough’s First Frontier Trail, a walking and bicycling trail from downtown to the Johnson City line, eventually connecting to the Tweetsie Trail. 20 years ago, Willow Springs Park was built, now Johnson City is using a $445,000 grant to redo the playground and It will include a splash pad. Both grants will be matched with local funds. State lawmakers said the projects will be a boost for the local economy and for children’s health.
