Charges pending after Marion, VA standoff

Charges are pending after a standoff in Marion, Virginia that started Tuesday evening. At 7:15 p.m., Marion police responded to a home in the 800 block of North Main Street regarding a person suffering a mental health episode. Marion Police Chief Kevin Testerman reported that after the hours-long standoff, Virginia State Police’s tactical team made entry into a home just after 2 a.m. Wednesday after the the home’s interior was foamed with fire retardant. A male subject had poured gasoline throughout the house and was located in a bedroom with sharp objects in his hands, and he was tazed by officers. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries and will have a mental health evaluation. The man will be facing arson and other charges.
