Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office addresses social media rumors after arrest

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office has responded to rumors on social media over a man who was arrested last weekend. The Sheriff’s office said that 46 year old David Cline of Hurley was arrested after allegedly trespassing and stealing from Justus Grocery in the Paw Paw area. Officers tracked Cline to a residence where he locked himself in a bedroom and brandished a baseball bat. Deputies then pepper-sprayed Cline and arrested him. After his release, Cline stole a vehicle and returned to the same residence. Cline admitted to taking the vehicle, then advanced on deputies with a knife and was subdued with a taser and arrested. Speculation arose online of police arresting the wrong person or going to the wrong home. The sheriff’s office said that this is due to another person having an active warrant with a similar name. Cline is facing multiple charges including trespassing and obstruction of justice.
