Bristol VA sets date for VI owner to provide plan for the former campus

Bristol, Virginia officials have set a date for Chinese company U.S. Magis International to turn in a plan for the former Virginia Intermont College campus. Mayor Becky Nave said they have to Aug.18 to provide the city with a written plan of what they plan to do with that property, and if that plan is not in hand, the city is ready to file another lawsuit. Nave also made it clear that the city does not intend to own the property long-term if the campus is reclaimed. Magis International bought the property in 2016. Since then, the buildings have sat vacant and have fallen into disrepair. Attorney John Kieffer represents Magis International and said the principal of Magis International still plans to open a business college on the property. Kieffer said the COVID-19 pandemic and government relations between China and the United States have kept Magis representatives from visiting the site. But said representatives from Magis will be visiting Bristol to look at the property sometime before the August due date.
