Breaks Interstate Park to have first-ever managed deer hunt

It’s a first for Breaks Interstate Park—a sanctioned hunt scheduled for December that will decrease the population of whitetail deer due to a mountain of problems that could develop across the property.
The park’s Commission decided earlier this year to have the managed hunts and determine the residents who will participate by using a lottery system for 10 spots.
State biologist Ethan Chapman says deer management is more about restoration of property and resources that have been depleted by the large number of deer at the Virginia Kentucky border.
Three of the 10 selections for the hunt are reserved for hunters with mobility restrictions. The deadline for entries is September 29th.
