Prosecutors seek life sentence for man accused of shooting officer

Prosecutors will seek a sentence of life in prison without parole in the trial of a man accused of shooting and injuring a Johnson County deputy. Joey Ponce was arrested after allegedly shooting and injuring a deputy during a pursuit in April. Ponce was also struck by gunfire when deputies reportedly returned fire. On Monday, a notice of intent had been filed, The State of Tennessee will seek a sentence of life in prison without parole for Ponce for the first-degree attempted murder.
