Johnson City Commission accepts Mayor’s resignation

The Johnson City Commission unanimously decided to accept Mayor John Hunter’s resignation on Thursday. Vice Mayor Greg Cox became the city’s mayor after Hunter’s resignation was accepted. Cox will remain in the mayoral role for the duration of the term until December 2026. The Johnson City Commission is tasked with appointing an incumbent to fill the empty commission seat left by Hunter. Whoever is appointed to fill that position will remain in the role until the next general election. The commission will start accepting applications for the vacant seat on Friday. Applicants must be certified to vote in Johnson City and can submit their application through October 10.
