Megan Boswell speaks, receives additional 33 years in prison for baby’s death

She went years without even a whimper. On Friday, Megan Boswell took the stand during her sentencing hearing and again, claimed innocence in the death of 15-month-old Evelyn Boswell.
“I would just like to say the state of Tennessee treated me very unfair during this whole investigation. And if I would have not had an unfair trial and impartial jury, I would have been acquitted of the murder charges. I would have never hurt my baby and I did not kill Evelyn,” Boswell said in the witness box.
A 20-second statement did not sway Judge Jim Goodwin’s opinion of the Blountville woman, giving her an additional 33 years of prison time for aggravated child abuse, abuse of a corpse, 11 counts of false reporting, failure to report a death. Goodwin said prior testimony of Megan getting the life she wanted with a new boyfriend explained the cause— Evelyn was a stumbling block to those plans.
Investigators said Evelyn’s body was wrapped tightly with blankets and aluminum foil placed over her face then crammed into a barrel head first. Goodwin told the court that Boswell showed no remorse or empathy during her proceedings.
Godwin also rejected Boswell’s request for parole, which would have Boswell in her late 50s at that point. Attorney Gene Scott said she would not be a danger to the public at that point. Goodwin had other thoughts.
“(The public) needs to be protected from the evil in her heart,” the judge said.
