Bristol TN asks state to approve city charter change

A resolution by the Bristol, Tennessee City Council is asking the Tennessee General Assembly to approve a change to the city charter that would allow the creation of an Education Department in the city. The amendment would also bring the finances of the school system under the City Finance Department. The city recorder would be responsible for accounting and serve as treasurer of the Board of Education. The city recorder would also distribute the federal funds at the order of the Board of Education. The proposed amendment has been met with some opposition from residents with an online petition asking lawmakers to reject a bill for those changes to the charter.
