Bristol VA says no contact with former VI campus owner since ultimatum

The City of Bristol, Virginia, said Tuesday it hasn’t heard from U.S. Magis, the owners of the former Virginia Intermont campus, since issuing a 15-day compliance ultimatum in an attempt to remedy the blighted property. The city sent the 15-day compliance ultimatum before taking legal action against the New York-based, Chinese-owned company. This is a final effort to remedy the now-closed institution which sits in disarray after a fire destroyed a major portion of the campus late last year. Bristol, Va. Mayor Becky Nave said the city hadn’t heard any communication from U.S. Magis representatives since the city sent its ultimatum on August 19. The City is demanding U.S. Magis remedy several key issues including “hiring licensed professionals, securing the property, and mowing the grounds.” If the city’s demands are not by the September 3 deadline, legal action will be taken on September 4 according to a letter from the city manager and attorney.
