Contestants in Dragon Boat Race fished out of Boone Lake

Washington County Tennessee Sheriff Keith Sexton said contestants had to be fished out of Boone Lake during the weekend’s Honor Flight Dragon Boat Race in Johnson City.
The sheriff’s report said a boatfull were competing when their craft capsized—sending the entrants into the water. The team members were all wearing life preservers and floated until officers with the Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency extracted all of the challengers from the lake near Winged Deer Park. No injuries were reported.
The event was held to raise funds for Honor Flight of the Appalachian Highlands—an organization that transports US veterans to Washington DC to tour the National Mall of Memorials.
