254 apartments proposed for East Oakland in JC

A developer wants to build 254 apartments on a long-vacant 21-acre site just off East Oakland Avenue and has a rezoning request scheduled at Tuesday’s Johnson City Planning Commission meeting. A preliminary site plan from the developer shows seven apartment buildings of three and four stories on the property. That would require re- zoning to “high density residential”. A preliminary artist rendering shows entrances into the developed property from East Springbrook Drive at one end and from East Oakland Avenue at the other end. In addition to seven apartment buildings and a clubhouse, the drawing shows six townhomes near the Springbrook Drive entrance. City staff has recommended approval of the request. The recommendation also says the proposal aligns with the Johnson City’s future growth plans.
